Instructional Design

The Eureka Series was designed based on data from extensive teacher focus groups, up-to-date research on learning and teaching practices, and the California Institute for Biodiversity's experience implementing the successful Cal Alive! program, which has been used by more than 50,000 students in California. The data from these experiences led a comprehensive instructional design on which the Eureka Series program is based. The Eureka Series components include in-class multimedia, standards-based curriculum, exciting field experiences, and high-quality professional development opportunities for science teachers that incorporate workshops and intensive summer institutes.
The Eureka! Series also taps into the tremendous natural and cultural resources in California's State Parks—the most diverse State Park system in the nation. California's State Park system is the second-largest educator in California, after the Department of Education.
