Coast Alive! Student Transportation Grant Application

Please complete the following form to apply for a $500 transportation grant. Grant recipients will be chosen based on how they intend to integrate Coast Alive! material into their curriculum, how the California State Content Standards will be addressed, their proposed student field investigation and their financial need. You will be notified of your grant status within two weeks.

Field Study Information

*: Explain what your students will investigate and where this will take place. Describe the desired outcomes. Important information includes what the students will investigate, why they are interested in this area of study, how they will prepare for this field investigation, which field investigation skills they will use, how Coast Alive! materials are supporting their studies, how they will analyze their data and how they will report their results.
We highly recommend writing this first in an offline text editor or word processing program (TextEdit, Microsoft Word, etc.), then copy-pasting the text into the field when you are ready to submit.

Science Curriculum Information

*: Explain how your field investigation complements your science curriculum. Mention the California State Content Standards (including the I & E standards) and the Ocean Literacy Principles you will be addressing. Important information includes why inquiry based learning is important and why environmental education is important.

Complete Funding

*: Explain how your field study will be funded and why your school needs a Coast Alive! mini-grant. What potential sources of funding have you approached (i.e. federal and state funding, PTA, other grants, etc.)? If $500 is not enough, how will you obtain the balance?

Agreement

: By filling out and submitting this form I agree and understand that this $500 mini-grant is for transportation costs, substitute teachers wages, or other costs related to taking students to coastal sites for in-depth scientific field studies and that my curriculum includes Coast Alive! material that supports this field study

I also agree to submit a written report no later than 30 days after the scheduled field study. This report will include where the field investigation took place and documentation of the student field investigation including samples of student work or photographs, student reflections on their field investigation and a written narrative.
